Schedule a professional radon test. Martens Radon can perform this service, many home inspectors offer radon testing, or you can use a DIY test kit. While uncertified tests may be less reliable, a high DIY test result is often reason enough to consider mitigation.

2. determine mitigation needs

Radon levels are measured in picocuries per liter (pCi/L). The EPA recommends mitigation if levels are 4 pCi/L or higher.
Once you know your radon levels, decide on the best course of action:
  • For low-use spaces (e.g., storage basements): You may choose not to mitigate.
  • For high-use spaces (e.g., home offices, family rooms, or bedrooms): Consider mitigation even if levels are below 4 pCi/L to reduce long-term health risks.
