1. Get your home measured

Schedule a professional radon test. Martens Radon can perform this service, many home inspectors offer radon testing, or you can use a DIY test kit. While uncertified tests may be less reliable, a high DIY test result is often reason enough to consider mitigation.

2. determine mitigation needs

Radon levels are measured in picocuries per liter (pCi/L). The EPA recommends mitigation if levels are 4 pCi/L or higher.
Once you know your radon levels, decide on the best course of action:

For low-use spaces (e.g., storage basements): You may choose not to mitigate.
For high-use spaces (e.g., home offices, family rooms, or bedrooms): Consider mitigation even if levels are below 4 pCi/L to reduce long-term health risks.

3. Install mitigation if needed

If radon levels are above 4 pCi/L, mitigation may be required for home sales. If levels are lower but you spend significant time in the affected area, it’s still wise to install a mitigation system to protect yourself and your family.

4. Remeasure to verify system function

After the mitigation system is installed, we can retest for radon at a reduced rate to check the systems effectivness. As all houses and soil conditions vary, sometimes additional system capactiy is needed..
