Radon Mitigation in Golden
We're based here — and Golden's homes, from stone foundations downtown to walk-outs on the mountainsides, are the houses we know best.
Radon Mitigation for Golden Homes
Martens Radon is based in Golden, and this is the territory we know street by street — licensed with the State of Colorado (RMT.0000225), with a free on-site assessment and a written quote that usually arrives the same day. Golden's housing makes radon work interesting: century-old stone foundations near downtown, slope-built walk-outs hanging off Lookout Mountain, and crawlspaces that need a sealed membrane before a fan can do its job. Most homes we mitigate end up below 2.0 pCi/L, well under the EPA action level of 4.0.

Which Golden Neighborhoods Do We Serve?
Golden stretches from stone-foundation blocks downtown to slope-built homes in the foothills, and each neighborhood tends to bring its own foundation type and terrain.
Downtown Golden
Older blocks near Clear Creek, where stone and rubble foundations ask for careful suction-point placement.
Applewood
Unincorporated Jeffco with Golden addresses; ranches and split-levels with generous basements.
Heritage Dells
Seventies homes on the mesa side, many with garden levels.
Mesa Meadows
Ranches and two-stories under North Table Mountain.
North Table Mountain area
Homes tucked against the mesa where exterior runs need wind-conscious routing.
Canyon Point
Townhome clusters where discharge placement has to respect neighbors.
Village at Mountain Ridge
Nineties two-stories, mostly full basements.
Lookout Mountain
Slope-built walk-outs where the crawlspace is half the footprint.
Genesee
Mountain homes where a sealed membrane is usually the first conversation.
What Does Radon Mitigation Cost in Golden?
Golden's mix runs the whole pricing table. A slab or full-basement home is the standard retrofit case at $1,400–$1,800. Mountain homes with crawlspaces need a sealed membrane over the soil before suction can work — that is the $1,900–$2,800+ band, and it is the most involved install we do. And newer builds with a capped rough-in pipe usually just need the passive system activated: $550–$850.
Passive System Activation
Homes built with a capped rough-in pipe
$550–$850
Standard Retrofit System
Most slab or basement homes
$1,400–$1,800
Crawlspace System
Sealed membrane + sub-membrane suction
$1,900–$2,800+
What Every Martens Radon Install Includes
Every quote covers the complete job: all materials, the new fan, and debris disposal. Every system ships with a U-tube manometer and a vacuum alarm, as Colorado regulations require, so you can see at a glance that it is pulling. Exterior runs are finished with color-matched downspout transitions — including custom 3D-printed parts where a standard fitting will not fit the house. Ivan stands behind his own workmanship for as long as Martens Radon is in business, and the fan carries its own manufacturer warranty. A follow-up radon test is available if needed or wanted.
Golden Radon Questions
Who does the work, and where are you based?
Ivan Martens does the work personally, from assessment to installation. He's based right here in Golden, brings 25 years of experience in the building trades, and holds an electrical engineering degree from the Colorado School of Mines. Martens Radon is licensed with the State of Colorado under RMT.0000225.
Can you mitigate a Lookout Mountain home with a walk-out and a crawlspace?
Yes. On a Lookout Mountain walk-out with a crawlspace, one system usually treats both areas — we install a sealed membrane over the crawlspace and tie its suction point into the same fan serving the rest of the home. Because membrane work is involved, pricing falls into the crawlspace band.
Do stone foundations near downtown complicate a radon system?
They change where the suction point goes, not whether the system works. Stone and rubble foundations need more careful placement than a standard slab, since the suction path has to work around the foundation's construction. That's exactly what the free on-site assessment is for — Ivan determines the right placement before quoting the job.
Do you serve unincorporated Golden — Applewood, Genesee, Lookout Mountain?
Yes, all three. Applewood, Genesee, and Lookout Mountain all carry Golden addresses, even though each one sits outside the official city limits. That line on a map doesn't change how we see it: those addresses are still home turf, exactly as much as any address inside Golden proper.
Is radon worse in Golden than down in Denver?
Radon varies house to house, not town to town, so there isn't a simple answer that applies to every home in Golden or every home in Denver. What we can say is that the EPA estimates nearly half of Colorado homes test above 4 pCi/L statewide. The only way to know your specific number is to test your specific house.
